Sequels, reboots, spin-offs Assemble!!!

Great movie. Well done. Enjoyed the crap out of it.
I think what made this movie enjoyable for me, was the character dynamic, how these group of superheroes, and their respective egos/ethos interacted with one another. It's probably the same reason that I actually watch the cartoon "The Superhero Squad" with my boys on a Saturday morning.
The humourous interaction of these egos, with tons of action....makes for positive cashflow.

It was a VERY smart move by Marvel to do this movie when it did. By taking a chance on this assemblage of heroes.....the studio heads can now breath a sigh of relief that a number of solo projects will make more money BECAUSE of this movie's success.
Let's be honest...... Thor wasn't that great, Captain America was just OK, and Hulk needed a reboot.
With the success of this movie, you guaranteed a favourable return on Captian America II, Thor II, and a Hulk reboot.....as well as the possibility of 2 more Avengers movies.
Ironman III is guaranteed to make a crapload of cash, regardless of this movie because RDJ has a complete grasp of who and what Tony Stark/Ironman is......and he is funny as fuck.

Unfortunately for DC, there isn't enough of a base yet to have a successful Justice League movie..... Batman has been the only great thing to materialize out of all their Superhero stories.
I will anxiously await the Christopher Nolan produced, Zach Snyder version of the Man of Steel. It's too bad that this has taken so long to materialize.... Batman has three down, none to go, and I would REALLLLLLLLLY love to have seen an epic battle between Superman and Batman. It is a continuing debate between my boys and I but, I do think they are on board with Daddy's pick of who would win(check the comics for how it would play out).

Ahhhhhhhh, one can still dream.

Until next time...... keep your paws outta my popcorn.

The (un)Amazing Spiderman

Just as the title of this Blog post suggests, I didn't find this movie that amazing at all.
While I thought the movie was Ok.... it was just that.....OK.
I like Andrew Garfeild but, I think that the way he played Peter/Spidey, was suited more as a 'further down the road' Spiderman, one that has fully grasped his ability, and thus have that confidence that comes with super powers.
I found that movie jumped WAY too quick from nerdy teenager, to wise-cracking, spandex clad ass-kicking web-slinger.
OK.....you get bit by a superspider, and on the way home you not only start to use these genetic abilities to protect yourself BUT, are able to kick ass like a fricking Ninja Warrior?

Next, you tell everybody who you are, even though you put together a head to toe costume to protect your identity? Superhero 101 people......

So..... my quick take on this is,  the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire movie was more suited for the transition story of a nerdy, whiny, sand kicked in my face, kind of teenager JUST bitten and learning to become Spidey, while the Marc Webb/Andrew Garfeild version is more suited to the more mature, confident, learned to accept and utilise my abilities, Spidey/Peter Parker.
I don't want to say it was all bad, because it wasn't. I just found that the movie compressed the "becoming Spidey" into almost a footnote of an actually already Spiderman movie.

Of course I saw it........twice.

As usual, I'm not a douchey critic that picks apart a movie. It is, after all, just that.....a movie.
There has been a lot of chatter, from both sides of the TDKR moviegoing experience, as I knew there would be from the moment that they announced that this would be Nolan's grande finale to his "Dark Knight" saga...
and here is my take on it:

I thought that it was a brilliant movie, and a very fitting end to a very impressive take on the story of "The Bat".
The manner in which the movie ends, serves as both a definitive end to Nolan's vision of who/what the Batman was, and an opening to a world of new possibilities regarding the guardian(s) of Gotham.
Nolanites seem to be holding onto the hope that Nolan will continue with his take on Gotham because of how the movie ended, by reminding us all that, at the end of "Batman begins", there was a clear spoiler about the second movie's villan. To those well intentioned folk, I shall REMIND them that, there wasn't originally going to be a second Nolan Batman flic.

I loved how the Dr points out all of the damage done to Bruce Wayne's body. This scene gives the viewer the physical reasons why Bruce can not continue like this forever...
Dr : Well, I've seen worse cartilage in knees
Bruce : That's good, right?
Dr : No, that's because there is NO cartilage in your knee, Mr Wayne, and the other one isn't much better. There's scar tissue on your kidneys, concussive damage to your brain tissue..... I can not recommend that you go heliskiing.

If you've read my last blog, you already know that I was NOT impressed with Anne Hatheway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and found it a difficult stretch to believe that she could be a Hard as fuck, ass kicking Cat burglar that nonchalantly backflips out of a second story window. Sorry Hatheway fans.......this was NOT the role for her.

I'll not go into a long, drawn out explanation of the movie.....I'm not THAT guy. What I will stress, is to pay attention to details, and keep an open mind.... It's Fucking BATMAN. There is so much to enjoy with this movie that, unless you do pay attention, you will have more questions than answers. It's one of those movies that you almost HAVE to see twice.
I think that I MAY do a full write up on some of the more debated points in a future blog but....... that will be after a third viewing. ;)

One last thing, there was so much meat to this movie that the 2hr 45min run time could have been expanded to two full 2hr plus movies, and still not felt stretched.

Next review; the (un)Amazing Spiderman.

Until next time, Keep your paws outta my popcorn.

My affinity for movie going, has led to new blog ideas..

No need to worry, I won't be a douchey Critic. I'm just going to talk about my view, and whether or not I liked it....... I dislike critics. ;)

Yesterday, I used more scene points to see yet another FREE movie. If you don't have a Scene card, you should look into it. At least 1/2 of the movies I've watched in the last couple of years, have been free. Anywayyyyyyyssssss......
the movie that I went to see, was "Total Recall", with Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel.

I actually enjoyed the movie..... even with some things that seem to have dissappeared throught the post production. Where is Ethan Hawke? How did New Aisa become "The Colony"? Why does there seem to be some major character dynamic missing?
I HAVE heard that there is to be an extra 17 mins on the DVD.

I had seen the original with Arnie, so I had an idea of where it was going. Also, with it being an action movie, it had predictable plot lines but, still enjoyable. There were also a couple of nods to the original that you will only catch, if you had have actually seen Arnie's version.
"Two weeks.."
You won't have to get your ass to Mars but, you may wish you had 3 hands.
All in all, it was a decent flic with enough action to keep a person entertained, and I WILL, see it again, albeit on BluRay. ;)
Hopefully, we are starting to witness Colin Farrell's return to acting.
One can not talk about this movie, without talking about Kate and Jessica...... These two women kick serious ass. I would like to have seen more of them beating the crap out of each other but.....
This brings me to a point that I am adamant about... either of these women would have been a far better fit for the role of Catwoman in TDKR. They can kick ass, and both fill out a skin tight catsuit very nice.
No offence to Anne or her fans but, I had a hard time believing that she was hard as fuck, able to really kick ass when needed, or do a backflip out of a second story window.
I guess you KNOW, what movie I'll be talking about next. ;)
See you in a day or two.... keep your paws outta my popcorn.

Sometimes, Karma Rocks!

Before I get into today's story, let me throw a few facts at you, courtesy of Health and Safety Ontario.

In February (2012), both the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Toronto Police Service conducted campaigns enforcing the province’s distracted driving legislation.
From February 13 to 19, OPP officers across the province charged 2,454 drivers with distraction-related offences, or 350 a day.2 "We'd prefer the number of drivers charged each day was zero," says deputy commissioner Larry Beechey, provincial commander of traffic safety and operational support. "Although we have indeed had some success with our campaign, this is a clear indication that we have a great deal of work to do yet."
In the first seven weeks of 2012, the organization attributed nine deaths on OPP patrolled roads to an inattentive driver. That's more than alcohol and speed combined.
In the same one-week period, the Toronto Police Service laid 9,876 charges,3 as follows:
  • 129 for a display screen visible to the driver
  • 1,705 for hand-held communication device
  • 77 for hand-held entertainment device
  • 121 for careless driving
Distracted driving refers to all forms of distracted or inattentive driving, such as adjusting a vehicle's entertainment or GPS unit, eating and drinking, using a hand-held device or viewing a DVD player or computer screen, etc. Drivers must realize that the true danger to public safety lies in the distraction, not the device, says the police service.
Under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, using a cell phone or device capable of texting while driving can result in a $155 fine. Also, watching an entertainment device can result in a $110 fine.

On to my regularly scheduled rant..........
Today, I ended up driving behind a woman going from Quinte West to Belleville. By the time I actually started keeping track.....we had less than 9km to go.
In that time, she crossed in and out of her lane, no less than 23 times. At one point she was completely in the centre turning lane.
The reason for this woman's erratic driving? You may, if you are a very astute person, have figured it out............. texting while driving.
Two hands...........
We end up side by side at the lights in town, and of course, I say something to her.
I point out how many times she was in and out of her lane, completely in another lane, and at one point almost hit another vehicle.
Her response was " Go FUCK yourself!!! Mind your own fucking business!!"
Of course ;) I can't leave it like that. I point out that, since we are sharing the road, it IS my business.
She then flips me the finger, mumbles something unintelligable, and promptly drives into the back of the car in front of her.

Sometimes, Karma Rocks!

Tonyseyz Begins

Well, since we all have to start somewhere, this is where I start. Right after I get $1,058,000.00, and declare myself Batman. OK, Batman without any of the toys, house, or faithful butler. Buuuuuut, I am a Dad, and that trumps the Caped Crusader. ;)
